The military mind in me never could get the rationale behind this ‘look within’ concept. Beyond life, death, sacrifice, and solitude, the life of a soldier is meaningless, I often thought to myself.

In 2018, on a Sunday brunch with my boss, he asked me,” Do you know where thoughts come from?” I was puzzled and replied in the humble military manner, “No Sir.” To this, he referred to The Secret and said, “The Universe doesn’t hear, ‘I want or do not want’. The Universe manifests your desires just like Google. Google doesn’t understand conjunctions and it is the same with the Universe. The Universe focuses on the essence of the desire, whether you want it or not.”

This left me in deep thought. He asked me to read The Secret to understand it better. Having recently shifted to a new place, my luggage was still packed. I knew my husband had the book, so I asked him where it was but in vain. Still, I was set on my exploration and opened a box I thought contained books. As I opened the seal, on the top sat The Secret. I couldn’t believe this and chose to think it was a coincidence.

That evening I took the book to my office so that I could read it during my break. Soon my boss walked in and was delighted to see The Secret with me. He said,” Ok, try this. Think of a query in your mind and randomly open the book. Tell me what happens.” I did the same. I was left with astonishment. The random page I opened had the answers to my question.

My boss smiled and said, “Surprised at how things manifest? Well, that’s The Secret.”

That day, I realized the value of this unknown, mysterious Universe that is within me. I am yet to reach the stage of a full understanding of looking within, but I am glad the process has started.

To this day, whenever I am anxious or uncertain, I go to The Secret, my solace.
