It has been a week now since I read The Secret. I had never heard about the book, movie or anything in reference to it, despite the widespread knowledge of it.
A week ago I was totally stressing over my future and the end of the semester. I had been preparing to take the MCAT, which is an admissions test for Medical School. That has been my dream since I was a little kid but I let myself get derailed during my first degree and decided in 2005 to get a second degree in biology.
Monday, May 14, 2007, I was told by an advisor to not do any studying for the MCAT on Tuesday. I had been stressed because my practice tests were only in the 24 score range, and I needed above a 30 to be considered. I thought all was lost.
I spent Tuesday, the day before the exam, trying to find books on stress relief because I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. To no avail, I was walking out of the store and I passed by The Secret. At first I thought it was a neat little mystery or story that would relax me and get my mind off of my stress. Little did I know what I had picked up.
I opened the book when I got home and didn’t put it down until I finished it later that night. I found so much in the book that pertained to me and was a description of where my life went wrong. I victimized myself in the past and was the cause of my issues and past failures.
I had always been an overtly pessimistic person, preparing for the worst and hoping for the best, I got a little of both in my life. After reading the book, things became all to clear, I cried some and started to visualize what I wanted to be in my life. I asked, believed and will recieve an exceptional score on my MCAT’s.
The next day I chose to walk to the exam center and listen to some positive music and enjoy the beautiful day. I got there and took the test, which was about 4.5 hours. I was just beaming with energy as I took it and even laughed a little in the middle of it. When nervousness hit me, I stopped, remembered the book, and thought of some positive things and I smiled and continued on with the test.
When I was done, I walked back home enjoying the beautiful day and had a real sense of accomplishment. Ever since I have read the book, my life has changed and people tell me they see a glow around me now. It is exciting and I can’t wait to get more in practice with The Secret.
