Every year, I do a yearly physical exam as well as a mammogram. This year was no different except for the fact that I am in the process of a divorce. The divorce was not in the plans or works at the beginning of the year but it happened. I knew that I would soon be divorced, I just didn’t know when. I began to set appointments such as medical and dental appointments while I still had medical coverage. I had hoped that my medical and dental insurance would be continued for a year after I was divorced. However, my husband refused to cover it since he was paying for it through his job. I knew I had to work quickly to make sure I was getting out of my marriage in great health.

I went for my usual mammogram appointment and did not think anything of it. I received a notification from the imaging center that something was amiss in the reading of my images. My doctor emailed me and informed me that I needed to take another mammogram because of the reading of the images. I thought, Ok, no problem, so I scheduled another appointment.

I then spoke with a nurse who informed me that I needed to do a diagnostic mammogram, and also an ultrasound. It was only then that I became more concerned. I was thinking that maybe there was something more seriously wrong with my breast. I had the mammogram, the ultrasound, and a biopsy and I was waiting for the results. I began to pray and repeated to myself “Thank you for my healing” over and over in my mind and out loud. I remember the woman in the movie, The Secret, had repeated a positive affirmation to herself when she discovered she had cancer. I thought to myself and really believed that I did not have anything seriously wrong with my breast. I would not let my mind think otherwise, even though I got scared for a moment. I believed that God would heal me.

Today I received a phone call from the doctor’s office. The nurse on the phone said I have some great news for you! She began to tell me that they did not find anything wrong with the tissue they took from my biopsy and that everything looks fine. She told me to keep up the monthly breast self-examinations and the yearly mammograms. All I could do was thank God by saying, “Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you for my healing!”
