It was working before I even knew it!
I have always believed in the law of attraction, but I never fully understood how it works or the scope of it.
Four years ago, my husband and I had just started over in a new state and bought a house. Shortly after that both our jobs became unstable and money was tight. We decided to sell the house wed only had for 9 months, rather then risk ruining our credit. After the sale I decided to treat myself with some of the money we made off the house. I went out and bought a bath set, towels, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, garbage can and a shower curtain. It was all very expensive, and it didn’t match our new apartment at all, but I had a picture in my head of the bathroom it would go in.
Things got tough, I lost my job, and my husband wasn’t making much on his commission-only job. I was miserable and depressed for a while. Finally I said I need to stop this, I kept telling myself that we have everything we need and we will make it. It didn’t get much better for a while, but somehow whenever rent was due, or my car insurance was about to be cancelled we’d get money we weren’t expecting. I had always wanted to flip houses, while things were tough Id picture myself having 40k to get started flipping houses to make myself feel better.
One day my dad, who told me I had to buy my own school clothes at age 12, who took the money I made modeling as a child, who never gave me the 45k I had for college, called me. He said he was thinking that things might be easier for us if we had some money to put down on a house, and if we could fix it up and sell it for a profit down the road, and would 40k be enough? I couldn’t believe it.
We started looking for a house, and I found what I thought was the perfect “for now house. It was bank-owned and they had the price wrong. We went back and forth with the bank for a month and couldn’t agree on a price. The whole time I was talking about it as our house, picking paint colors and arranging our furniture. My husband kept asking me if I was still open to other houses, and I kept telling him, Whatever is meant to be will be, and we will get the perfect house.
One day my agent calls me about another house. It was just listed and had no pictures or information. We went to look at it, and it was the house I really wanted, not just one I would settle with because of the price. It had a nice big piece of property, 2 car garage, a pool, 2.5 bathrooms, everything I said I wanted in a house. The place was trashed. It had been abandoned for 4 years. Then when it got foreclosed on, the owners came back and trashed it. It was still just what I wanted, but with the work it needed it seemed like we couldnt do it. Then our mortgage broker called and said hed talked to the listing agent and that it has serious problems, that we probably wouldn’t even be able to get a rehab loan on it. To top it off, there were 4 other parties looking at it, all investors.
I called my mom and told her I don’t think we can buy my house. A few minutes later I get a call from my dad asking me how bad it is, how much it would take to fix it and if it was a good deal. He offered to lend us the rest of the money, and give us another 10k to fix it up. We put an offer in at asking price the next morning. Right after we got a verbal acceptance from the bank, 2 other offers came in, one of them over-asking. Even though the bank wasn’t legally bound to our offer they moved forward with us. We got the home inspection, and it turned out the serious problems weren’t serious at all. It’s 5 months later and we are almost done, a bit over budget, but the money came that we needed.
In the meantime, my agent decided to call me and let me know they dropped the price on the first house to below what we had offered them. She didn’t expect us to buy it or anything, she just thought it was funny and wanted to let me know. I mentioned it to my mom, 10 minutes later my dad calls and asks if I think we can make money off it. I tell him yes, and we decided that he will finance it, I’ll do the work and we’ll split the profit. We put in an 80k offer, 37k below the new reduced price. My agent thought we were crazy, but I knew the house came back to me for a reason and it was meant to be. The bank accepted our offer in less then 2 hours (record speed for a bank!)
Now I have both the houses I asked for, the 40k (actually more) I asked for and I’m flipping houses.
I had started reading The Secret a few weeks ago. One night after I finished a chapter I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed. I looked at the toothbrush holder I had bought way back when, and I realized I had the bathroom I was picturing when I bought it. It was then that it all came together and I realized I had everything I asked for.
