South AfricaI am a 23-year-old believer (:
I am a final year medical student and next year I have to start work in the form of internship.
We get to choose 5 public hospitals across the nation where we would like to be placed and of those 5, a national lottery picks out 1 for you to go to. For my entire medical school career I had wanted to go and work in Cape Town. However, I was randomly allocated to my 5th choice. A hospital in the Gauteng province that I should have never put down in the first place since I did not want to work there. I had put it down more as a space filler on the application, and as a safety to prevent being second rounded, a process that ensues you if you don’t get any of your 5 choices.
Anyway, long story short, I was devastated. But something told me to hold on to the dream. I embarked on a way to swap-out my position with someone else but the Western Cape province, where Cape Town is, is a highly contested area and no one would easily swap out their post there.
One afternoon after sobbing my eyes out about it all, I came across The Secret DVD. I had first watched it some years ago, but decided to give it a go again. Perhaps it would cheer me up some. From the moment it started playing, I started to feel different and by the time that the last scene played I was bright-eyed and hopeful and full of unwavering faith. Some way, somehow, the universe was going to play things out in my favor. I believed it.
Before going to bed that night, something told me to go and check the online internship forum. It’s an online community of interns and soon to be interns that discuss all things medically related. Guess what I saw when I logged on?
Someone with a Western Cape post wanting to swap out! They wanted a post that I could not offer, but I was not perturbed for a minute. I KNEW someone who had the post that they wanted. And that same someone wanted my post so a 3-way-swap could be done.
I was not concerned that the post had been up for hours and that maybe the person who posted the ad had found someone else to swap with by now. I just knew that this was all meant for me.
As this very moment, I have been allocated a post in Cape Town where I was so ardent to work in the first place. I am so happy and grateful that this miracle unfolded right in the nick of time! I now need to organize my move down there but I have no doubt that the universe will provide all that I need. From the flight tickets, to the deposit for an apartment, I will continue to believe.
With an attitude of gratitude.
