Normal Like The Other Kids
Submitted by: Michael V.
Phoenix, AZSuccessful professional with a lovely wife and 4 great children. Working to become a better person each day !
I was born in 1965 with a left club foot turned inward 90 degrees. After 3 days, I was given up for adoption to the care of the state by my single mother who lived at home. Many years later I would learn she did this since she knew only the state could give me the best medical care I needed.
I lived in foster homes until I was 22 months and had 2 surgeries to correct and straighten my left club foot. I was adopted at 22 months by a wonderful mother, father, and sister who I thank my lucky stars found me, loved me, and wanted me.
A few years later I had a 3rd surgery by a leading foot doctor to help my left club foot. I could pretty much walk normal by this time, but I wore a boot with a brace like the one worn by Forrest Gump in that movie. Kids made fun of me and I hated that.
As time wore on the doctors said I would always wear the boot and not be like normal kids. I decided I was going to be a normal kid and wear tennis shoes and play sports, etc.
As time wore on my commitment and dreams became reality and the doctors were amazed. They said it was a miracle, but I knew it was me and God saying….”I am going to be normal like all the other kids !”.
Dream it, believe it, and you can do it. I did and so can you !
