I started saving for a car from the beginning of the year. This was a bit difficult because although i was employed, the job i was employed to do hadn’t started yet.

I was employed at a start-up airline who were getting alot of delays out of their control therefore was unable to actually start.

Anyway, I still managed to save $600 a month out of a $1000 a month stipend. I was intending to save $6000 and purchase a car by September, didn’t matter what kind of car. I wanted to spend $23,000 for a car that was not too old. Now let me just say, in Barbados for a car more than 10 years old can cost about that same price.

In May, I was driving around with my sister and we just on a wim decided to stop in a used car lot at a car dealership. There I saw a 2005 car for, you guessed it, $23,000. I made up my mind that night that, that car will be mine. By that time I did not have all of the money I planned to save but it didn’t matter, I was convinced it was already mine.

I spoke with a agent at the dealership the next day and he gave me a list of all the documents I’d need to apply for financing. So after running around getting everything, I went back to the dealership and the agent there told me that car was already sold.

I was devasted and was beginning to become depressed. He tried to get me interested in another more expensive car but I wasn’t doing that. I had a goal price and I wasn’t going to put myself in even more debt than I had budgeted for.

The weekend passed and I had started looking other places for cars around that price with no luck. Then I remembered The Secret and stopped looking. I visualised myself driving that car to work and making car payments and that car being mine. I still believed it was mine.

Two days later, the agent called me back and told me to get the car insurance taken care of and that the car was mine if I still wanted it! Can you believe that??? I was ecstactic!

Its hard sometime to remain positive and hold on to the visuals especially when faced with anything contradictory to what you want. But, push through it. Believe with all your heart and its guarantee you’ll get it or something better.
