I got the job
Submitted by: Carla. S
Chicago, ILI am 57 years of age and live in River Forest Illinois. I work a the University in Chicago as a tech support person.
I lost my job at the University in 2004, and so decided to go into Real Estate. But even though I had changed my path I still deep down in my heart wanted to return to the University. So every day from the time I departed I said to everyone that one day I would return.
I would go online every month to see what jobs had been posted and re-apply. For 3 years I did this, and not one request came in for me to come in and interview. But that did not stop me, because I knew deep down that I would return.
The real estate market took a hard down turn for me, and I had to get a job that would bring some money into the house, so I went into retail. Let me tell you that was the hardest job I have ever had. I worked on my feet for 8 hours a day. I worked every weekend. But whenever I had a day off I would go online to the University job site and see if they had any openings in my field. I just knew that I had to get out of retail fast.
Well, sure enough, I went on 4 weeks ago and there were two postings. I applied for both even though they were both for the same department. I applied on a Tuesday, and received an email the following day with a request for me to come in to interview. I went down, and it was just like coming home. I interviewed and was offered the job the following week. I started back at the University on July 1, 2008.
I believe that if I had not been putting it out – if I had kept it all in – then I would not have gotten the job, I believe that if you keep saying it and keep it in your heart, whatever you want you will get.
