When I was 22, I had just gotten out of a terrible and manipulative relationship and I knew I could not go through that again. I was so worried that every man I met after that would do the same to me as my ex had done. I was so scared that I couldn’t allow myself to get involved with someone else. Every time someone came into my life I made some sort of excuse to end that potential relationship.

While at work one day, I opened up to a colleague and she told me to think about my perfect partner. She told me to get a pen and paper and write down all the qualities I wanted in him. What his hair color would be, his height, what he did for a living, what kind of car he drove, you name it, everything. So I sat and we talked and as I was writing down everything I wanted in a man, she asked me to tell her what I was writing. So I did. I wanted a man with dark hair. My ex had light hair and I wanted no reminder of him. I wanted someone that was taller than me, to own his own car, etc. She just smiled at me as I was telling her all this. I never knew why she asked me to do this but I just did it. It made me feel so good when I wrote down what I wanted in my next partner. I had not felt that good in a long, long time and I was smiling.

After I wrote down everything that I wanted in my life partner, I folded up the paper, put it in my desk at work, and forgot about it.

A few months later I was on a night out with my friends. While outside a nightclub, I tripped and almost fell into the wall. However, instead of hitting that wall, a young man caught me. He laughed about it saying he couldn’t let me bash my pretty little face.

To cut this long story short, that young man, the one who stopped me from hurting myself that night. The one who caught me. He is now my husband. We have been married for 10 years and have the most amazing, little boy.

When I was introduced to The Secret a few years ago, I read about writing down what you want and then letting it go. I didn’t know that was what I was doing 13 years earlier to attract my perfect man. My partner in crime. My husband. Every day I am thankful for him and everything he does for me. Thank you, Universe, and thank you to my old work colleague who made me create my perfect life.
