I Am Walking Effortlessly
Submitted by: Optimistic
UniverseA girl who has recovered from an ankle fracture.
In December 2013, I tripped and was diagnosed with a left Ankle fracture.
I was lucky enough to skip surgery but I was asked to be non-weight bearing for an entire two months with a cast on my leg, while my ankle healed. Depression called in when I stayed at home for two months with complete bed rest and nowhere to go.
Thanks to my few friends who always stopped by on weekends to keep me entertained. The first two weeks were arduous but then I decided to keep myself positive. I switched to my hobbies and spent my days painting and reading.
Things got worse when my plaster was removed and the big picture of “walking” was miles away. I was asked to practice walking with my crutches first and then without any support.
I still remember doctor’s words “Don’t worry you will start walking in 8-10 days”. However, the first 5 days were horrible as I ended up whining in pain whenever I tried walking, even with support.
Then I thought enough is enough and let’s make things happen. I pasted a walking women photo on my vision board and kept visualizing myself walking effortlessly. I even wrote on a paper “I am walking effortlessly” and made it as my mobile wallpaper. Whenever I practiced walking and did my exercises I repeated to myself that I am walking effortlessly.
Surprisingly, the next day I woke up and felt confident enough to walk without crutches and I took two steps in faith. They were painful two steps but I was happy that I was walking without any support.
After that there was a remarkable recovery each day. At this point, I am walking effortlessly and will be re-joining my office soon. Finally, my life will come back to normal.
