Dear Secreters:

Most of my life has been pessimistic, empty, and abusive. I am currently a senior in high school. I applied to about 12 colleges. All of these, CSU, UC’s, and privates. I was denied to almost all of them except one CSU. That was CSU of Dominguez Hills which was not exactly my dream school.

However; at the last minute I got accepted into my dream school, USC!!

This came as quite a shock because I did not have great SAT scores and had not passed a single AP class. My G.P.A. was around a 3.5 (non-weighted) but besides that, my profile sucked! I was so doubtful that I wouldn’t get accepted to a private school because no one in my family believed in me. Furthermore, most applicants would have better profiles.

At school, I constantly heard people say they got accepted into UCLA or Harvard or these great schools. In turn, I became rather doubtful for a period of time. Yet I had this burning desire to only hear my voice and not the high schoolers or my family.

For me, getting into USC wasn’t just to get a good education, but it was to gain a ticket to freedom.

To make a long story short, I’ve been in foster homes most of my life. I have been abused in every way possible. My “guardian” now gets money, $1000 for me monthly, but gives me nothing. I was homeless at the age of 9 and I was kicked out of my house 11 times last year, my junior year. Only for Department of Children and Family Services to put me in it again.

But now I am free! I am getting a full ride out from this hell. I will no longer be abused.
