How Can I?

North Bay, On, CanadaI was fortunate to discover The Secret in June 2007. I'm a terrible flicker. I'm constantly flicking from channel to channel and kept landing on Larry King on CNN where he was interviewing teachers of The Secret. This happened many times and got me curious, so I picked it up from the library, read it every day for seven days, returned it so other people could see it too (only had two copies at the library), and immediately bought my own copy. It totally changed my life, and I have since given it to at least half a dozen of my friends and family. Every day is exciting; I no longer ask myself, why am I here??
My ex and I are the very best of friends. He told me this story about when he was traveling back from Ottawa from a business trip.
He was feeling very down, and his shoulders felt really heavy, as he was constantly worried about the fate of our three children (adults now, of course, one woman 38, two men 36 and 34). He just couldn’t seem to shake this feeling of doom with everything that was happening around him, and feeling totally helpless to stop it.
He told me how he started asking himself, “How can I help Lisa, she has all the material things but no love in her life? How can I help Michael, his marriage is breaking down and he’s constantly drinking, and how can I help Spencer, who just lost his girlfriend of four years, quit his job, and found another which he truly loves but it pays much less money so can’t seem to work his way out of his debt?”
As he was walking back to his car thinking these thoughts, he suddenly felt this tremendous weight lift right off his shoulders, and by the time he got to his car, he was smiling. He doesn’t fully understand what really happened, but for some reason he felt that everything was going to be alright after all.
“Oh Fred, don’t you realize what happened to you?”, I asked him. “You were working with The Secret… you asked the biggest question of them all, “How Can I?”
I have this saying on my bedroom wall. I see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night, “The First Law of Success is Service to Others”.
It keeps me grounded, it keeps me humble…
