I Got Picked Out Of 25,000 People!
I have loved my favorite dance group called ‘Above And Beyond’ for 15 years. I had supported them and enjoyed their music for so long. I attended any concert I could make it to and have traveled to see them. My entire teenage life and adult life had basically revolved around their music. They have always been a positive reinforcement in my life through there lyrics and kindness.
One day when I did not have a lot money for a ticket and I did not really have anyone to go with, my best friend knew how badly I wanted to go. She called me the day before their were scheduled concert at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, NY and said “Karina I will go with you and take care of everything, just purchase your ticket”. I was so excited! I was going to go with my boyfriend but he had to leave for a business trip, so I just thought to myself that I was not meant to see them. Until I realized I was.
Above And Beyond do this thing where towards the end of the concert they pick 4 people out of a crowd and bring them up on stage to push the button of one of their classic songs with a beat drop. I remember saying to Sandra when we got there “Imagine we get to press the button tonight”, we both giggled and said “Um, no”, and then we went and enjoyed our time there. Our seats were far from the stage and all the way on the left side so they would not be able to see us.
After 2 hours of having a great time and taking in the music and all the love from the crowd, two gentleman in black who looked like security guards, started walking towards us. I thought it was about the crowd behind us because they were a little rowdy, so I said to Sandra “Uh oh, someone is getting kicked out” . They walked up to our side of the seats and one comes close to my ear and says, I kid you not, “Above And Beyond would like to invite you on stage to push the button”. I did not believe it at first so he repeated himself and I started crying. They escorted us through huge crowds of people cheering and giving us high fives. We got back stage and I saw Tony who is one of the DJs from the group. He walked up to me, hugged me and said “Are you ready”. I cried so much out of happiness and that just that one day made me believe that anything I wish for can come true. That day made me believe that when you want something bad enough, it can happen. Thank you!!!
