Giving Blessings

Minneapolis, MN.I am 40 years old, a mom, part-time college student and full-time marketer. One child in college and one in 8th grade. I love my job, life and family.
I received a copy of The Secret years ago, and never read the book. For some reason, I ran across it last week and havent been able to put it down.
Last night I read the part about asking for blessings on your enemies. This works, and I can tell you why, even before I read The Secret.
My second husband, who was the love of my life, walked out on me and my two children a few years ago. He had re-kindled his relationship with an old high school sweetheart. In order to get the divorce process done quickly so he could marry her, he agreed to make my car payment until it was paid off.
When he left he had it all. I had supported him in his career and he was making more money than ever, driving a new car and going on trips, while I tried to figure out how to make ends meet with a child on his way to college.
One day I got an email from him telling me he had lost his job and would no longer be able to make my car payment. I did not know where I would find another $400 a month to pay my car. I started looking at all the options, and nothing was coming into focus on how this would work. I even tried talking to a lawyer, but had no funds to proceed with going after him in a legal sense.
Then I heard God tell me “Ask for Blessings on him”. My first thought was “are you nuts? After what he did to us? No way”. A few days went by and that voice was still after me, the same thing “Ask for Blessings on him”. So I sat down that morning with my prayer journal and asked for blessings on my ex-husband.
It felt good, it felt right and I went on about my day. Two hours later I got an email from him saying he had a new job and would continue to make my payments.
Since then I have learned to ask for blessings, forgiveness and love to all who have hurt me, intentional or not.
Now I can’t wait to put more of The Secret to work in my life.
