This passed weekend I had out of town family over for a weekend visit. It was nice, then on Saturday, we went shopping. I didn’t have much cash on me, just $10, so whenever I picked up something I liked, I put it back on the shelve and told myself I’ll get that soon.

In the mall, we passed by a booth. An old man was selling costume jewelry and key-chains to raise money to help a little 8 year old girl conquer her fight to survive cancer.

On the table I noticed a beautiful purple butterfly ring, the only one left in that color and I decided to buy one for my youngest daughter. I paid the $5 and the man was thrilled and thanked me. Then I left to follow the rest of the family. 5 minutes later, I decided to rush back to see the man at the booth and I asked to see the butterfly rings again. I figured I would buy another butterfly ring for my oldest daughter and I picked out the last white one. I paid the man my last $5.

Even though I didn’t have much, I felt it better to spend it on small plastic things that would most likely get lost or broken in less than a week anyway, to help someone who could use my little bit of money.

Sunday when my guest left, I got an idea to organize my paperwork which was scattered everywhere throughout the house. I threw out 2 garbage bags full of paper and junk simply by removing the envelopes from old statements, bills, and tax records.

In one of those envelopes, I was surprised to have found a Government check for $500!! I noticed a note on the envelope that I was intending to call the 1-800 number for clarification on the check, but I must have misplaced the envelope and forgot about it! I also found another check from January of this year for $22!!

Usually, checks have expiration dates, but when I called about the $500 check, the representative told me that Canadian Government checks do not have expiration dates! Wow!! What luck!!

I went to the bank, cashed that check and found out that in one month, I would have lost the value of the second check!

All in all, Saturday, I donated $10 to charity and Sunday, I found $522.00!!!

Clearly, from what I’ve learned from The Secret, when you give without expectations, the Universe finds a way to give back much more!!
