Fundraising Goal Met For A Charity Walk!
Submitted by: Becky
First watched The Secret In September 2014 and am so happy with the increased happiness and peace in my life.
Thank you to everyone for the knowledge and inspiration you have shared! This is my first post. I enjoy reading everyone’s stories and I hope you enjoy reading mine!
At the beginning of this year I was looking for a new organization/hobby to dedicate my time to since I’ve always enjoyed volunteering. I was missing being involved in two other prior organizations, so I was feeling very blue.
In February, my friend asked me to join her on a 3-day breast cancer walk where we would walk 60 miles over 3 days and raise money to fight breast cancer. She explained that we would have to do training walks together regularly and each of us needed to raise a minimum of $2300 in order to participate.
The walking part didn’t scare me, but the fundraising part sure did! I never enjoyed asking anyone for donations in the past. My friend told me to not worry about the money, it always comes.
We both decided to ask that we would raise $2500 each by the end of May.
In my gratitude journal I wrote a very detailed “Thank you” for our fundraising goals being met early so we could focus on training for the walk. Periodically I would re-read my journal entry and imagine how good it would feel having that money raised to make a huge difference in the fight against breast cancer.
From March through May, my friend and I hosted several fundraising events and parties where we would invite friends and family to join us. We both made jewelry to sell and gift baskets for raffles. We sent out emails and letters to family and friends and were excited about the walk the entire time.
One of the big fundraising events we held was a multi-family garage sale which was held one Saturday in May. We asked for the weather to be beautiful for the sale day and we had a huge turnout! And of course the weather was perfect! We were surrounded by so many positive people during the sale and some customers even donated extra money to the cause.
When the sale was over we both sat down and counted and re-counted the money we earned.
Not only did we each meet our goal of $2500 each after the sale, but we both raised $2700 each!!!
Our goal was reached the middle of May and we asked for the end of May! My friend and I were so happy that we walked to a Mexican Restaurant by my house to celebrate. We were wearing our pink shirts and pink beads during the meal and there was even a live musician at the restaurant who sang for us! It was an amazing end to a very productive fundraising day.
I am so happy and grateful for my wish being granted. I am so happy and grateful for everyone who stepped forward to support us on our fundraising. I am so happy and grateful to be able to participate in this amazing 3 day walk which takes place this weekend!
Thank you for reading my story. I wish love and happiness to everyone.
