From Africa To Australia.
I have always been very depressed and sad about everything, although I was always able to hide it from my so called “friends”. Many people bullied me because I am gay, and that was the main cause of my depression. I think I spent all of my secondary school years depressed. I began thinking about leaving my country, because I honestly did not see any reason or purpose to stay there. And after suffering so badly for that long without even being out of the closet, I always imagined that it would only get worse if I came out to people. I began looking for opportunities to take my undergraduate course in a foreign university. I searched for lots of universities, but because I did not have financial ways of paying for tuition and travel expenses, I never even actually applied because I was very dependent on a scholarship and these universities did not award students with scholarships. So my parents put me in a local college near home and although I was losing one year of academic life, that year was very important in my life, because I finally took a look at myself and started realizing who I was and what kind of person I wanted to be.
I had started reading ‘The Secret’ in 2014, but never quite practiced it because I was still kinda of skeptical about it. Then, I just decided to make a small test. I desired to make dreads on my hair, which was something impossible because my parents would never allow it. But one day, as I was walking down the street on my way to college, I saw a flier that said “We make dreads, braids, etc.”. It was an advertisement for a new salon that opened in my neighborhood. That was the day that I started believing in the book.
I applied to an Australian university, and three weeks later I received a letter of offer, however, I couldn’t accept the offer because I still did not have any financial resources to pay for tuition and travel expenses. I felt depressed and sad again. Every time I applied for a scholarship, I still believed that I wouldn’t win it, and then I never won.
I remembered everything that was taught to me by The Secret and started pretending that I had already won a scholarship and I was moving to Australia. So, I cleaned my room, got rid of everything that I would not need anymore, because I was moving out and I even packed my bags.
On the following day I found in my e-mail inbox an Australian Government Scholarship link. So I applied and the day after that, got the answer that they would finance my studies! This was the thing that I actually had never before believed could happen because the Australian Government only offered scholarships for postgraduate studies, but still, they chose me and wanted to pay for my undergraduate studies. That was the happiest day in my life. After taking care of my student visa, they gave me the airplane ticket and I happily moved to Australia.
I honestly don’t understand how that scholarship link ever got to me, or why did the Australian Government decided to award me with a scholarship, but from that day, I started being grateful for everything that was happening.
Dreams do come true!!!
