Found The Job I Wanted.
Submitted by: Indira
CanadaI am a lawyer who travelled extensively around the world.
I am a lawyer and despite the fact that I speak fluently in 3 languages and that I have 3 degrees in law, I could hardly find a job. When I took my first maternity leave I decided to follow my husband on a much better paying posting abroad. The result was that while he was earning money, I was slowly letting go of my career. I sent over 2 000 job applications and did not get a single interview for over 4 years. I couldn’t accept the fact that I was a top law student, that I had valuable international experience and that all of a sudden, everything stopped. When I moved back home, I was unemployable as my experience was too long ago and too far away. A small law firm gave me my chance and after 4 years I became a reference in my field. Yet, I was earning at the peak of my career 50K, so I was one of the lowest paid lawyers in the province. With a family, things had to change, especially since I became a single mom. Plus, I was practicing in the field that I initially swore that I would never do.
While I have visualized for years, it did not explain why I ended up that way. This is still a mystery to me and I am still trying to comprehend what happened that I went from a very ambitious junior lawyer to unemployable. However, I recently downloaded all the visualisation videos I could as I really wanted to make a change into my life. I then got contacted by a large company and I ended up being the second best candidate. I was very disappointed when I was rejected.
Then I got an email from a job alert that I didn’t know I had and it was for a job in my region. I applied and then I was immediately called for an interview, which lasted 3 hours over 2 days. I bluffed over my salary and finally I just got an offer which very closely matches my expectations. It actually doubles my current salary. I stay in the region, not that I have ties here but the cost of life is very cheap so my money goes a long way. My title is Head of Legal Department! The company has international operations so I am going where I wanted to go!
While I can’t explain why it didn’t work before, I can tell that when I was in interview, I knew that I would get the job as I knew that I was a good fit with them and vice versa. I visualized the salary and the job title, as well as the conditions and I got exactly what I wanted, even though I am in a region where a decent salary is difficult to find.
In my experience, I believe that visualisation is one thing, but it won’t always be what you expect. For instance, I really wanted that job where I was the second best candidate and I visualized it. Heck I even found the house where I’d be living in, the restaurants I’d be eating at and my kids’ school. Foe some reason I had a feeling that I shouldn’t hold my breath. Why? Who knows. I went through the same process here and I knew that I would get what I wanted, so I readily set my expectations. I believe that there is more than visualizing, there is also chemistry that comes into play. Or perhaps that the Universe knew that this job was what I called for? There are still some great mysteries to me but I am happy to tell that after more than 10 years of job search, I finally got a title and a salary that meet my expectations, as well as great colleagues.
