I have been exposed to The Secret and the laws of attraction two times earlier in my life, but for some reason I never acted upon it. Maybe I wasn’t ready for it, or it wasn’t the right time, but for whatever reason, I never took it seriously. By the time I had gotten to where I am in life, I had completely pushed the law of attraction out of my head.
My story started in June of this year (2007). I have been an avid gardener and rare plant collector for many years. I was outside in my yard watering my plants and flowers on a hot, humid, Michigan Wednesday evening. I was lamenting on a tropical plant that I had purchased from California on ebay years ago and how bad it looked since my cat decided it would make a good resting place. It was smashed and barely hanging on. I was heartbroken, as I had had that plant for years. I would never be able to find another one if it died, let alone afford it-I wished I had another one. At that time, I was road weary from life, playing the same old audio over and over in my head as I went about my chores: “Things are so tough for me. I am tired of not making enough money. I don’t have enough to go around. How will I pay this bill? How am I going to feed my kids this week? Is this all there is to my life? I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow.”
The phone rang. I answered it on the wireless as I continued around the yard. It was my good friend in Florida. I whined to him for a few minutes, expressing my depression. Out of the blue, he asked me, “Why don’t you come down and visit for the weekend? You could relax at the beach and do whatever you want. I will pay for everything.” Now mind you, my friend is a very busy neurosurgeon and business entrepreneur. In the four years he has lived in Florida, he has never had enough time off for me to visit. I couldn’t believe my ears and I jumped at the chance.
I took a flight out late Friday afternoon and arrived in Tampa around seven. My friend picked me up and we grabbed dinner at a local restaurant. While we were eating, he said to me, “I have something I want you to watch when we get to my house.” That’s all that he would say about it.
When we arrived at his home, he put in a DVD for me-The Secret. I watched in amazement, and it seemed that something stirred inside of me. As I continued to watch, I became more and more excited-I remember this! I stared at my friend in disbelief! Here was this highly educated man- a brain surgeon and an extremely successful individual who I looked up to and have had the utmost respect for-and he believes in The Secret? And he is sharing it with me? Wow, that was something to think about. If he believed in it, there must be something to it.
The rest of the weekend I spent relaxing at the beach, eating out and going to the movies. I was having a nice relaxing time; taking my mind off of things, but the whole time The Secret kept bouncing in and out of my head. I decided that I would buy the DVD when I got home and think some more about it. I relegated it the back of my mind for the rest of the trip.
Sunday finally rolled around and I was sad. Sad about saying good bye to my friend, but sadder about going back to my same old depressing life. I packed my suitcase, dragging my feet the whole way to the airport. My friend and I said our good-byes and I proceeded to the check in counter inside. When I got up to the counter, there was a confusing mob of upset and angry people. It seemed my flight had been canceled and there wasn’t another one until the next night. I can tell you that I wasn’t too heartbroken! My friend came back to the airport and picked me up. Since he had to work the next day, I stayed around the house, using his swimming pool.
The next day, as I floated in the middle of the pool on my back completely relaxed, I felt the sunshine soaking into my body. I was in an almost Zen state. I opened my eyes and began looking around at the landscaping, admiring how plants that only grow in pots at home, grow freely in people’s yards in Florida. Suddenly, I gasped! Could that be? I stood straight up. I swam to the far end of the pool and gave the shrubbery a hard look. Yes, it is! It was the same tropical plant that my cat had nearly destroyed at home-and it was growing like a weed in the hedge, out of control, invading every open inch it could get too! Then it all hit me at once, in flashes before my eyes-The Secret, the law of attraction, abundance, ask and ye shall receive… all of it! I was dizzy. Talk about a confirmation! This was a defining moment. I had only wished for another plant five days ago! That was it… I mean-how many times does it have to hit me in the head? I dug a few small plants and carefully packed them in a box to carry back on the airplane. I felt like I had a whole new outlook on life.
It’s amazing to me how all of the circumstances came into play for me to watch The Secret DVD-my friend having enough time for me to visit, my flight being canceled, etc.; no coincidence in my book.
Now I am taking the laws of attraction seriously and putting into practice what I have learned from The Secret. The best part is that I have a constant reminder of how abundant the universe is -my plants! They sit in a pot on my deck. I look at them every morning on my way out to work and I see them first thing when I get home. A constant reminder that the laws of attraction are a reality.
