I Believed I Would Meet My Family!
Submitted by: Sandy Shing
SurinameI'm a young working mother of 29 years and live with my partner and 2 sons.
When my dad was young he traveled from Hong Kong to some other countries and finally ended up in Suriname. He left his family at the age of eighteen and never went back to visit. Not that he didn’t want to but because he needed to work very hard to travel that far again. He worked here in Suriname, had a bunch of girlfriends and suddenly he met my mother. They had three Asian mixed children and I’m the second one. When I was twenty one years my dad past away at the age of sixty four. He didn’t have his family here with him. Only my mom and us three. So we had to contact his family in Hong Kong to give them the sad news.
We lost contact and after a while and then I came in contact with my cousin in Hong Kong. That was the year 2014. My dad past away in 2008. I got to know my cousin who is also the second child and is older than me. He sent me a few pictures and told me about the family. He told me that my dad’s mom was still alive and that she was 93 years old.
I always wanted to meet my family in Hong Kong. I was dreaming about it and fantasizing what it’s like to sit in a plane one day because I’ve never traveled before. At that time I watched The Secret film again and began to fantasize even more about meeting my family in Hong Kong.
Then it happened! The place where I work offered me a trip to China to attend a training about light steel framing. Hong Kong is not that far away from China so my employer asked if I wanted to visit my family in Hong Kong but only for 2 days. I didn’t have to think about it so I yelled yes, why not?! I was very excited.
I met my grandma and she is still fit. She can still walk and do her chores. A very strong woman! That year not only one wish came true, but all of them. I traveled for the first time and I met my family for the first time, too. Ask and you will receive.
