Animal Magic!
Submitted by: Hannah
London, UKI live in London, and read The Magic about 2 years ago. Since then, I have also read The Secret and watched the film. I have a great passion for animals and work in a veterinary surgery at a job I love. And I can't tell you how the teachings of The Secret have changed my life in this area!
Animals have been my passion from a young age. I loved them, but we lived in a small flat so mum always said we could not get any pets, something I dearly wanted. She got me some pet fish, but it wasn’t the same as having a pet dog or cat to cuddle and fuss over. But my mum was adamant. Absolutely nothing would change her mind.
Then my brother came home, saying his friend’s cat had recently had a litter of kittens. To my utter amazement mum said we could have one! We went over to see them and one of the kittens came over, climbed on me and sat purring on my chest. This was the same kitten we took home. I couldn’t believe it! My very own cat at last!
Fast forward to 2014, and I am working in a vet’s office. We have a really bad week where 5 cats, including two small kittens, are abandoned on our doorstep. We are running out of space, but we neuter the kittens and spend the next 2 to 3 weeks frantically calling every animal rescue, every shelter, every charity in the area. But nobody could help. Not even one of the cats was offered a place. Then the dreaded news came. The vet informed us we had to find all of these cats homes by the following week, otherwise we would have no choice but to euthanize them. It wasn’t fair to keep them in cages, and we were running out of space.
I can’t tell you how hard I cried, but I could not let this happen. So, I sent a desperate prayer out to the Universe, asking that homes would be found for every one of these cats. This was on a weekend when the surgery was closed. When I woke the next day, a Saturday, a text was on my cell. It was my mum saying a family friend of ours had agreed to rehome one of the small kittens. I really could not believe what I was reading! At least one of the cats was saved, I thought, and I couldn’t stop saying thank you!!
When I arrived at work again on Monday morning, I noticed three of the cats were missing. I feared the worst, but then a co-worker cheerfully said “Oh no! They’ve found a place in a shelter to be rehomed!” A charity we contacted, who at first had insisted “no”, had changed their mind and agreed to take these cats. She then told me the last remaining kitten, a friend of my co-workers had agreed to rehome. I couldn’t resist any longer, and had to tell them my news, that a family friend of mine had also agreed to rehome one of the kittens. In less than two days, 5 cats had been saved and rehomed after we had spent weeks of calling around and trying without success to find homes for them. Even now it’s incredible to think that happened!! And all over the space of a weekend, when the surgery wasn’t even open.
I remember I just went down to the ward at the vets, picked up the kittens and cried because I was so grateful. If you believe, and have faith, you really can do anything! You can turn even the most hopeless of situations around, the possibilities are endless!
