A Mouse in My House
Submitted by: J. Kandler
Grass Lake, MIIt was a year last January since I had first seen The Secret. I remember how I had felt after I had first watched it. I felt excited, invigorated, and for the first time ever, full of hope. One of the things I remember the most was waking up early every morning, full of great anticipation of what the day would hold. I have never in my life been a morning person. I hated waking up early. I related very well with the man in the movie who looked like he was drained and still exhausted. To be honest, I had always focused on the lack in my life, and was totally blind to the good that existed in my life. The best way to summarize my experience with The Secret: my eyes were opened.
I have been on a journey of the mind or soul ever since. I have been reading countless books on anything having to do with the same way of thinking or changing your life. I have manifested many different things along the way, and sometimes didnt even notice it at first. I did the parking space, some smaller sums of money, and dealings with personal relationships.
Well, recently I had an experience that I find very interesting. Although it does not have to do with money, healing, or the things we normally ask for, it shows the power we really do have in our thoughts. In the movie Lisa Nichols talks about focusing on the Abundance that exists around you. Bob Proctor speaks of paying attention to what youre attracted to. And this event reminds me of those words.
I had been learning more and more about being in touch with nature or the beauty of every single thing on this planet. To be aware of the beauty and abundance of life that is all around us. I started to realize that every living thing on this planet is alive and full of life. I believe that every part of nature, the flowers, animals, water, the earth, and so on, is alive and full of the spirit of life. As though we are all connected always. I believe that the following event in my life was trying to show me the truth in this.
I moved into my current home last October. It is in the county and very beautiful. I see a large variety of animals on a daily basis and wake up to the sound of birds each morning. Many times I see deer or even a whole family of deer grazing in my yard. As I am writing this I can hear a Wood Pecker in the distance. But since moving here I had never seen any creatures inside my home. However like I explained, I was trying to focus on getting in touch with more of nature and all of its creatures.
Two weeks ago I had gotten up in the middle of the night. I came into the kitchen to get something to drink and there were no lights on. I strolled over to the stove and turned on the light above the stovetop. A mouse had been up there because when the light shone I saw it run like mad. Screaming, I ran too. I wasted no time informing my husband that we had a mouse. He suggested that I call my Dad, who used to work for a pest control company. Or my husband said, You could just kill it the next time you see it. I explained there was no way I could do that, I just couldnt. But I knew that if it wasnt taken care of we would end up having a whole lot of mice in no time at all.
My Dad called the next day and I explained the situation. He offered to bring a trap over and said that would take care of the mouse. A lot of people may think I am crazy here but I said that I did not want the mouse to die that way. I just thought it was a horrible way to die. To make it worse, they dont always die instantly. So my Dad said he would be over with the trap.
Now my Dad doesnt live very far from here and comes over just about every day to see my children. So the next day he came, my husband asked, Hey did you bring that trap by chance? Immediately my ears picked up that question and I was a bit nervous. My Dad said, Oh no I forgot. But I will bring it next time. I was relieved. I just thought there had to be another way.
Once a week my aunt and another friend get together and have kind of a, meeting of our minds you could say. We drink specialty coffee, eat homemade cookies, and share our experiences with what we have been reading or going through regarding The Secret and changing our lives. Its really great because it helps us stay on track and more focused. We learn from each other. Last Thursday, we had one of those nights. We had been talking and got on the subject of being in tune with all creatures. We had pretty much been discussing what I explained earlier. I brought up that I had a mouse in my house and that I was trying to see it differently than just a pest. I jokingly said that maybe I should leave it a nice piece of cheese. Just in case my Dad or husband put out a trap, at least it could have a nice piece of cheese as its last meal. I explained to her that I really felt I did not want it to die by a trap. That I really actually felt bad and didnt know what to do.
Later that night, I got up as usual around 4:00 a.m. to get something to drink. As I was coming around the corner for just a split second I thought, make noise in case of the mouse, thinking that it would hear me coming and not be around when I came into the kitchen. I went over to the stove to turn the light on. I had to move a large pot from one of the burners so my arm didnt bump it and make a lot of noise. I reached for the light and turned it on. My eyes immediately focused on the stovetop. Of course, there it was the mouse. But whats strange wasnt that this mouse was here, ‘chillin on my stove. It was that it never ran. It actually was at the front of the stove nearest to me, facing the back. I was so close that I saw its ears. Then it turned the upper part of its body and just looked at me. I naturally was taken aback and gasped for my breath, but this time I did not run either. I got my something to drink, watching this mouse on my stove. I was dumbfounded. I kept thinking, Why isnt it running? I walked slowly out of my kitchen, the whole while looking back at the mouse who was looking back.
I went to bed, tapped my husband and said, Honey our friend the mouse is here. He just nodded and kept on sleeping. The morning came and I got up around 8:30 a.m. My aunt and friend were awake already and making coffee. I went over to get a cup and share my experience of the night before. They too were a bit shocked. They were teasing that it maybe it had come for the cheese I had promised. I went and got ready for the day, returning to the kitchen about an hour later. When I stepped into the kitchen my friend said, Julie, with this tone in her voice. Yeah, the kind that you know before she says it that its bad. I said, What what is it? She then explained that she had just went to empty the dishwater and found my little mouse. Apparently the mouse, which was female, fell into the dishwater and drowned some time in the middle of the night. I just stood there and was like, What the heck? I felt sad but didnt know what to think.
I know this is a weird story, and most people might think it sounds crazy, but I really think it shows something about the power of our minds. Now I would hate to think that I had attracted that mouse dying in the dishwater, but I certainly have been more fascinated and in tune with all of God’s creatures. Believe it or not, looking closely at that mouse and having it not run from me, gave me more insight and belief in our abilities than ever before. I have always believed in The Secret because I have been able to attract other things in my life. But this time I learned and experienced something I needed but never really knew, until the mouse.
I am so grateful for this movie, and all of the new knowledge available. I have never felt more alive and excited about life. Thank you so much to the creators of this movie – its value really can not be measured.
