A Job Offer Out Of The Blue!
Submitted by: Hilary L
United KingdomI am in my 40s and happily married.
I was working in a job for four years but became unhappy when I realized I was being taken for granted. I have always been very helpful and diligent by nature. I was reluctant to leave though, as I am quite shy, anxious, and scared of change. I found the courage to apply for around 10 jobs but lost confidence when I did not gain any interviews at all.
One day I decided to watch The Secret movie. That made me feel very positive and keen to think about improving my circumstances. Initially, I felt too scared to imagine too many good things; my fear of being disappointed was trying to stop me. When I compared the dream to my reality, I felt dejected but I knew that wasn’t right so I watched The Secret movie again to help my resolve.
I decided not to think about specific jobs or companies. I focused simply on what I really wanted; to be in a less hectic, more supportive workplace, to work closer to home, and to be paid better. I continued to think about this regularly, visiting The Secret website to read other people’s stories.
Just a few months later, I received an email from a woman I worked with two years earlier. She had moved into a different industry and a small company she knew was looking for someone with my skills. I was surprised she remembered me. She sensed I was a little hesitant but was very kind and encouraging, so I agreed to meet with her and a manager from the company informally.
The company had a limited budget for the role. It was not full time so the pay would reflect that. Feeling disappointed, I asked what the actual ‘take home’ pay would be and was surprised to hear that it was higher than my full time job!
Now I have been in the job for over two years. It was challenging at first but I have learned so much and I feel very valued, including receiving a bonus! For the next year on I will be working two days per week from home. I have more confidence and feel much calmer. I continue to feel grateful for my job and The Secret.
