A Fender-Bender Gone Good?!!!
Submitted by: Stephanie Lee
Cos Cob, CTI love traveling, reading, learning a new language, exercising and watching my little dog, Norton, do funny things.
I have a great example of using “The Magic” written by Rhonda Byrne, that happened yesterday:
Lately, I had been trying something new. In the morning I sit quietly and meditate for about 15 minutes and then I write down a couple of lists. A daily “to-do” list and a “Today I am grateful for…” list. OK, so after doing these lists I got ready for an appointment but I was not really accounting for the traffic. I could deal as I have my music in the car.
I got into an extremely small fender-bender. The guy got out of his car screaming and swearing at me. F-this, f-that, even an f-you and a ‘this is bs’!
But remember, I was in a good place mentally, which paid off.
The fender-bender was completely my fault so I apologized profusely, which I think kind of surprised him. I wasn’t frustrated, angry or argumentative back. I just smiled and offered him a bottle of water. Then he really apologized to me for his behavior. He stated he had already called the state police, which I thought was a bit excessive because he really had no damage but I went along with it and kept smiling. For 20 minutes we waited for the officer and actually had a few laughs.
When the officer arrived he said I was the happiest person that he’s ever witnessed at an accident. I got only a warning for my Jeep being so close behind the guy’s car and the officer said to me afterward that we, the officer and I, were nearly neighbors because he lived right around the corner from me. I asked him his name and the officer said, “What are you going to do, look me up?”, all in good fun. I told him I may even invite him to Oktoberfest! Everybody left in good spirits!
A good learning experience for me all around!
You see, I implemented the teachings of “The Magic”. Nothing was going to affect my mood because I decided that it wasn’t worth destroying my day. So I missed my appointment but did some much-needed errands I had been putting off and was able to get home to my precious dog, Norton. Yay, me!
