365 Days Of Gratitude So Far.
Submitted by: Gregg Frank
Neenah, WII am a grateful person. I am happily married to a fun, loving and amazing woman who shares her life with me. Have a very successful career as an IT professional.
I intellectually knew about the law of Attraction. I had read The Secret, The Power, Hero, and The Magic, along with many others. I had followed everything in every book I read to the letter. I had purchased the gratitude journals and I had done all the practices of the 28 days of The Magic.
On the outside, everything was looking great. I had a well paying job that gave me satisfaction and I had great coworkers. I had a wonderful wife, great vacations, money to spend, and I was on my way to paying off our house and truck. I was nice to everyone I met and practiced mottos and gratitude sayings regularly.
So why did everything around me feel like it was crashing in? It wasn’t until a year ago that I figured it out, as I was reading through “The Magic” yet again, in search of something I might have missed. Or would I have to admit that even though it kind of felt right, that this was all hokum?
The answer was simple when it came to me. I must have not been ready before then to understand it properly. The message was to “feel gratitude”. I did try to feel gratitude for things I would get in the future and things that I received in the past and was continuing to receive. But I missed the biggie, the ‘right now’, the ‘present moment awareness’. You know, the only thing we really and truly have. I was missing it!
So I embarked on a 2 fold adventure with “The Magic”. I would practice it for at least 60 days with a focus on gratitude and the present moment. I chose 60 days because current neuroscience research shows that it takes between 40 and 60 days to create new thought patterns and habits.
The first 28 days were like going through a whole new book! My happiness in the present moment skyrocketed. My present moment awareness increased incredibly. Life became easier and more fulfilling than it had been in years.
After the 28 days, I continued to read and focus on one chapter per day along with doing my ’10 things I am grateful for and why’ list. When I hit day 60, I decided to go for 100 days. When I hit 100, I decided that 1,000 days was my next goal.
Now my dear friends I am at day 365. I am now one year into this wonderful gratitude practice. With all that I have seen, done, and felt to date, I plan to continue my gratitude practice for the rest of my life.
I did it one moment at a time and one day at a time. I urge you to find your gratitude practice every day, no matter what it is. Honor yourself and do it!
To Rhonda Byrne and The Secret team along with everyone reading this, thank you for celebrating one year of gratitude with me. To the Universe for everything I have received, am receiving, and will receive, thank you, thank you, thank you!
