You Are The Movie Screenwriter.
Submitted by: Film Girl 13
Minneapolis, MNI'm a screenwriter based out of Minneapolis. I write films in my spare time and I have fallen in love with it. I wouldn't want to do anything else. Any opportunity that presents itself that can help me progress on that dream I will take.
All I have to say is Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am a screenwriter from Minneapolis, Mn. I started my film career 1 year ago. I never knew it had the potential to blossom into all the opportunities along the way. This is how The Secret worked for me.
I have a coworker who is very supportive of my film career and she is always encouraging. Note at this time I completed some full length feature scripts and was looking for funding to produce them. She brought in a newspaper article from the Star Tribune one day and gave it to me. Long story short, the article discussed how the Media Office for Film and Theater in New York City was creating a
$5,000,000 dollar campaign to fund women in film over the next 5 years . I was beyond excited because this could be the opportunity I needed to fund and produce my film. I told myself “I am so happy and grateful for my coworker giving me this article.” But that’s not the end of it.
I called the office and asked how to become a part of that fund. I was than directed to their website. Unfortunately they were not ready to have people start signing up but they did given the basic qualifications required in order to become apart of it once it was up and running. One requirement was to be apart of the Writers Guild of America, East. It’s a company that copyrights scripts and acts as a guild/union for writers in the United States. I checked out the website and received great information for scripts.
Then the event page caught my eye and I proceeded to click on it. One of the events they were holding was a “Women In Film Conference” in Los Angeles, CA. After reading that, I had this burning intuition to go. That’s when I asked “Universe please help me get to LA with an affordable flight, tickets to the event and a convenient place to stay.” Guess what?!
It happened! I found an affordable flight to get to LA and a place to stay. I also asked the Universe for a car to rent because I wanted to be safe there while commuting. I also wanted to go to Sequoia National Park which I have been dying to go to. I checked for rental cars and it was too expensive. I was not discouraged. I told myself even if I have to take the bus and skip the National Park, I would be grateful to go to LA regardless.
The Universe responded to my request! Last week I decided to help and be an extra in a pilot episode that a university student was filming. Side Note: Even though this student in past was a little unprofessional, I decided to help out. I had a friend tell me, I want to see people succeed in this industry and I will help the best way I can. I was encouraged, because she was right, in this industry we need all the help we can get. It felt great to help him, I met new people and ate free pizza!
Anyways, me and one of the other extras got to talking. I told her about my trip to Los Angeles and the film event I was going to attend. It turns out she works for a car rental company! She was able to hook me up with a car rental in my price range without any extra fees. I am so happy and grateful!
That’s when I truly realized the Universe will always provide no matter how small or big your request is. All you have to do is be grateful for what you have and ask, receive and believe your request is already on it’s way. The Universe provided a way for me and it can do it for you. By the time your reading this I will be on my flight to LA. I am not sure what kind of people I will meet or what lies in store but I am truly grateful. The Universe is getting me closer to my dream of becoming a screenwriter in Hollywood. My films will promote on screen diversity and break down stereotypes of women in film.
Thank you Rhonda and the team. You guys are simply amazing. Thank you for sharing The Secret. I get to live the life I have always imagined. I get to be the change I see in the world and know I will always be provided for.
Seriously, Thank you!
