How to get your dream job!
from United Kingdom
One year ago I was just about to move abroad to be with my boyfriend. I had a good job in my home country and didn't have a job where I was moving. I decided that I had nothing to be scared of when it came to leaving everything I knew behind and move to a new country where I would also have to find myself a new job. As the move was decided very fast (3 months from the day we decided until I moved) I hadn't had too much time to save up any money to keep me going in the beginning. But I decided not to worry about that either.
There is this very famous company that had one of their offices in the country I moved to, and it happens to be in the town I was moving to. As I had passed by the company when visiting my boyfriend, I knew exactly where it was located and what it looked like. Prior to moving I decided that that's where I'd be working when I moved over. I've never ever worked within that industry before, and just put my faith in that there would be a suitable position for me there.
To make my intentions more clear I Googled a picture of the building and looked at it almost every day. I visualised myself walking into the building and sitting by my computer. Loving my job.
When talking to people that I didn't really know (could be in shops or in the bank) and told them that I was moving abroad their first question would always be, "What will you be doing there"? And I always answered that I had my boyfriend there, but also that I had got a job with this big famous company and that I was moving there to start working for them. It didn't bother me to "lie" as I didn't know the people I was talking to and to be honest with you, it felt quite good to say it.
By now I couldn't see myself working anywhere else.
The day came when I moved and I didn't start looking for work the first week as I wanted to settle in to the swing of things. The second week I posted my CV on a recruitment website and tadaaa... the day after I had posted my CV on the website I got a call from a recruitment agency asking me if I was still looking for work. (Still? I hadn't even started!). I said yes and they told me about this position within this really famous company and that they thought it would be perfect for me. They then asked me if it was ok to e-mail me a job description and if I, after reading that, could please get back to them and let them know if they could forward my CV to the company.
I got the job description and a few more details (pay, etc.) e-mailed to me, and I called them and said that it would be absolutely fine for them to forward my CV. So they did and pretty much immediately I got a call back with a time for an interview with tadaaa - the company I had imagined myself working for!
The interview was one week later. It went brilliantly well. A couple of days later they called me and said that the job was mine!!! I've now worked there for one year and I'm loving it!
I've told several people around me about The Secret and they've all gone and bought the book. I have more stories than this one but I would have to write a book to share them all.
All I can say - just do it and believe in it. It's not hurting anyone... quite the opposite actually! :)
