Today I had to visit the welfare office for the first time in a long time and was not relishing the visit at all. Everyone said I should have called the call center and asked for an emergency appointment. I didn't. Everyone said that the staff were terrible and would not want to help. They weren't. Everyone said I was wasting my time just walking in as I was going to be sent on my way after 5 minutes. No-one was going to be able to see me. I was not going to get any help at all as "the welfare staff are a bunch of you know whats".
Well I had read and watched The Secret, and I knew better.
I walked into the office, the lady at the desk told me that "Yes," I should have made an appointment, "but if you don't mind waiting another 10 minutes someone has just had a cancellation and they can see you." I was with one staff member when another called out my name. She wanted to help me too. Not only was I able to get the help I was looking for, but I was also told that there were other options available to me that I didn't even know about.
I wanted to send an email in regards to the staff at this office, but do you know what? You can only send complaints. Too many people complain, not enough send commendations and thank yous.
What about a spot where you can commend staff on their helpfulness, their friendliness, and the compassion I saw other staff showing to clients around me. Now that was The Secret in action for me today and for the rest of my life. I'll keep you updated.
