I was at a job and I was really struggling Ė each day I worked very hard, but was unable to provide consistently good results with the projects that I was in charge of. I was caught in a cycle of insecurity, under-performance, and unhappiness.
When I originally took the job, I was working within the same office doing something that I really enjoyed. The position had been posted for months with no suitable applicants. One day, on a whim, I suggested to the positionís supervisor that I take the job. This was a very appealing idea for me, because the new position would allow me to keep a flexible schedule, stay within the same office I was in, learn new skills, eventually move to a higher position, and work with someone who I admired a lot. Although I didnít really have a strong background in what the position required, the supervisor liked my idea and strongly encouraged me to apply - she had no problem training me for the position because she knew that I was a good worker. However, a few months after taking the position, I realized that I had made a terrible mistake. Each new task turned out to be much more difficult than I initially anticipated. Each day became a struggle, and within 6 months both my supervisor and I were a bit frustrated. I wasnít sure what to do.
I sought the advice of a career counselor, who happened to be a Secret believer. I had seen The Secret a few months prior, but I hadnít really absorbed any of it. She suggested that I watch it again, and I did. After watching it, I placed my request to the Universe in writing. I wrote, ďI am so happy and grateful that I have a new job that better matches my abilities, has fewer hours, and still has the same great flexible schedule and benefits that I have now.Ē I also attempted a more positive outlook and began to feel more in control of how to change the current direction of my career.
I started regularly looking through job postings. A couple of months went by and nothing seemed to happen. There were no postings that interested me, and although I felt better in general, I was still struggling on a daily basis where I was.
In April of that year, on a particularly miserable day at work, I was redirecting my thoughts to a more positive place, and I remembered the Secret story about a woman who cleaned out her garage to assist the universe in helping her find that special someone. I immediately related that story to my situation, and promptly wrote a letter of resignation. In the letter I wrote that my last day would be June 6, and that I was sorry to leave but that I had found a more suitable position that better matched my abilities. I didnít give it to my boss - I just dated the letter for some time in mid-May, and saved it on my work computer.
Within 2 weeks of writing that letter, 3 interesting job postings were listed. I applied and was interviewed for each. And within a few weeks of that, I was officially offered a new job which met all of my universe request requirements. I accepted that offer on June 6.
Later that day, I opened my letter of resignation so that I could edit it and give it to my boss the following week. When I saw it, I could not believe that I had accepted an offer on the exact day that I had drafted as my last day of work.
Amazing - the Secret really works! Thank you!
